Alumnus Tom Krol’s Company Honored as Manufacturer of The Year

Krol & Schreiner

IMET Corporation, a contract electronics manufacturer in Southampton, PA whose founder is an Electrical Engineering graduate of The College of New Jersey, has again been honored for its exceptional growth and business strategy. Outranking numerous businesses many times its size and age, the company was named “2014 Manufacturer of The Year” by Greater Philadelphia’s Chamber of Commerce annual Excellence Awards. This distinction came within weeks after IMET’s inclusion in this year’s prestigious “Inc. 5000” list of America’s fastest-growing private companies.

“Needless to say, receiving both of these coveted awards is quite a tribute to our executive, engineering and production staffs,” reflects President Tom Krol, whose original career choice was being the lead guitarist in a moderately successful rock band. However, a college guidance counselor advised Tom to take a less arduous and “more secure” career path – in engineering. “Acting on that lady’s suggestion was the best thing I’ve ever done,” reflects the 38-year-old Philadelphia native. He founded IMET in 2000 from a rented garage while still a sophomore at TCNJ’s School of Engineering. Today, the company now owns and operates a 15,000 sq. ft. building in Southampton, PA serving the medical, military, industrial and consumer marketplaces with product design and development, electronics engineering and circuit assembly.

The Excellence Awards dinner on November 20 was attended by The College of New Jersey’s Steven Schreiner, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Engineering and Guy Caleerano, Major Gifts Officer.
